About the Association of Payment Professionals
The Association of Payment Professionals (APP) is a member-based and volunteer-driven nonprofit committed to safeguarding the payments ecosystem through education, collaboration, and leadership.
In 1997, six individuals in the payment ecosystem came together and formed what became the Merchant Acquirers' Committee (MAC). In the intervening 25 years, MAC built a reputation and became widely recognized as the premier educational organization for risk, underwriting, and compliance in payment processing.
In recent years it became increasingly clear that while our mission is more relevant than ever, our original name fails to capture who we are as a community. Thus, on April 7, 2023, we officially became the Association of Payment Professionals or APP.
Today APP is a community of more than 2,100 payment professionals in risk, underwriting, compliance, and law enforcement. We empower our members through training and education, networking, and information sharing.

APP produces and supports several educational programs. These include events like Level Up, our Fall Regionals, and a diverse range of monthly webinars. Starting in April 2023, we launched a new educational initiative called M@Cademy in response to member needs. |
APP provides multiple venues for members to collaborate and share information about payment risks and crimes beyond just events. APP Alerts is an active online community for identifying potential fraud. Strategic Interest Groups (SIGS) focus on Government Relations, Banking, and Fraud Trends. |
APP brings together and develops leaders. Learn and grow with leaders who are addressing challenges facing the payment industry in positive ways, offering strategies that have worked for their situations, and shaping the future of risk management and fraud prevention in the payments ecosystem. |
And there is so much more yet to come!
