Money Mules and Bogus Subscriptions: How Scammers Infiltrate the Payments Ecosystem
Payments experts Shari Savlick, David Press, and Will Seitz discuss the latest evolution of transaction laundering. In this multi-part scam, fraudsters obtain payment processing for multiple websites. Then, using stolen credit cards, the scammers enroll their victims in a low-dollar monthly subscription. The cards are obtained through various illegal methods, including fake identity validation schemes, sham vehicle history report requests, and even phony parking tickets! Our presentation will describe this complicated scam in depth; disclose patterns and techniques used by these criminals; and provide guidance for keeping these illegal actors out of your portfolio.
